Jews around the world have been sharing the words L'Shana Tova with fellow Jews over the past few days. It's what we say to each other during this time of year, much like "Happy New Year" with a twist. L'Shana Tova actually means "For a Good Year" and when coupled with the rest of the greeting it becomes, "May you be inscribed and sealed for a good year."
A little more than just, "Happy New Year" right?
This year at Adas Israel we'll be talking about the Jewish New Year, about the odd placement of the commandment in the Torah, Lev. 23: 23-24 and what the preceding verse means.
We'll also spend some time discussing Mitzvot, why we do them and what rewards we can expect...when done with pure intentions.
And finally we'll talk about the book "The Non-Orthodox Jews Guide to Orthodox Jews" by David Baum. We'll talk about being non-judgmental, growing up secular and coming to understand what the Torah is about.
Rosh Hashana is the perfect time to reflect and then cast an eye forward to the impact you and I can have...if only. Join us for services this year...we look forward to praying with you...along with a nosh or two.
L'Shana Tova!
