The Sound of the Shofar

For those of us who are Jewish today isn't just the First Day of Fall but the day before we celebrate the New Year of 5775.  

On Wednesday evening we'll gather in the shul to begin the process of celebrating the Ten Days of Awe; those ten days between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.  They are heady times and they are bookmarked with the sound of the shofar.

For much of the year you and I may go about our lives as if we are sleep-walking.  It can be like Ground Hog Day...we wake, dress, work, eat, watch some TV and go to sleep.  However, it is the sound of the shofar that calls us to "wake from our slumber" our...spiritual slumber and come to the realization that everything we have is a gift...from G-d.

On Wednesday night we will start that process of attempting to right the wrongs we have committed, to seek forgiveness from those we may have hurt and to seek forgiveness from G-d for the missed opportunities to bless His Name.

David Rubin to Speak in Manly, Iowa

One of the most trusted voices coming out of Israel is that of David Rubin the former mayor of Shiloh and the founder and president of Shiloh Israel Children's Fund.  Mr. Rubin's extensive knowledge about terrorism, Israel, the U.S.-Israel relationship is heart-felt and gripping.

David will be in Manly, Iowa at the Manly City Hall on Tuesday, September 16 at 7PM where he will be sharing the story of the Shiloh Israel Children's Therapy Center and speak on the current events going on in The Land which he has outlined in his new book, "Peace for Peace: Israel in the New Middle East".

This is an event not often seen in our area.
